The account of the Court of Sven and Siobhan, King and Queen of Æthelmearc at the Kingdom Arts and Sciences Faire and Queen’s Prize Tournament held on June 23, AS 53 (2018), hosted by the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael, as reported by Baroness Ekaterina Volkova, Jewel of Æthelmearc Herald, assisted by THL Zofia Kowalewska, Ice Dragon Pursuivant.

Their Majesties gave leave to Their Excellencies of the Rhydderich Hael to hold their court.

His Majesty then spoke of the wonderful day and how excited He was to see so many participants in the Faire showing off their skills.

THL Sophie Davenport, Silver Buccle Herald was invited into court. She informed Their Majesties that she had been lacking a deputy to cover Region 4 of the Kingdom but had found a suitable applicant. THL Zofia Kowalewska was then invested as White Horn Herald. THL Sophie then announced that the regions 3 and 5 are also in need of a deputy and to please contact her if you are interested in the positions.

THL Padraig o’Branduibh was the called into court. His Majesty spoke of skill and dedication on the archery and thrown weapon ranges as well as acts of skill with rapier that has all been attributed to Padraig. For this he was inducted into the Order of the Golden Alce. Scroll by THL Eleanore Godwin.

Their Majesties then invited Lady Thalia Papillon before them. Her Majesty spoke of reports of a quiet and unassuming lady who is fierce with bow and arrow, is deadly upon the rapier field and has taken to learning the duties of a Mistress of the Lists. All that could not go unrewarded and she was added to the ranks of the Order of the Golden Alce.

Those members of the Order of the Golden Alce were asked to stand so that the populace could see if there were any who were not standing but should be included into the order. Her Majesty then asked that if an oversight was seen, to please write in letters of recommendation.

The members of the Silver Sycamore present were asked to come forth. Her Majesty spoke of the arts and the youth of the Kingdom and how the two go well together. She then noticed that there was one who had not come forward with the order. Wentliana Verch Meuric was called forth. Her Majesty said she had seen this young woman helping in the kitchen throughout the day, has researched and taught classes on period “fizzy” drinks. For this she was inducted to the order. All children present were then called forth. Their Majesties understood that sometimes court can be hard to pay attention to, so they provided a box in the back of the hall from which each child could pick out one toy to play with. They were then asked to calmly walk back and make their selections.

Their Majesties inducted Eadaoin Gaelach Rua into the Order of the Sycamore in absentia for her skill in the bardic arts. Scroll by Lady Felice de Thornton.

Baroness Theresa du Domremy was then invited into court. Her Majesty spoke of this lady’s sill in documenting, creating and wearing of hat. For all this and more she was added to the Order of the Sycamore.

The Order of the Sycamore was then asked to stand so all may see who present should be recommended to the Royalty for recognition.

For her dedicated service to the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael as webminister and dance mistress, Lady Manarola was inducted into the Order of the Keystone in absentia. Scroll by THL Aibell Shuluaine.

The presence of THL Hrolfr a Fjarfelli was demanded. When he presented himself, Her Majesty spoke of all the work he is doing in the Dominion of Myrkfaellin as exchequer, archery marshal, your combat marshal in training, autocrat and anywhere else help is needed. Members of the Order of the Keystone were then asked to stand for the populace.

His Majesty then spoke of all the beautiful works of art that Their Majesties are privileged to give out at every court and it is the dedication and generosity of the scribes of the Kingdom that enables that to happen. He then asked that all scribes who had produced a scroll since the beginning of the year to stand and be thanked.

Baroness Ekaterina Volkova, event autocrat, was then called into court. She thanked all those who attended as well as those who volunteered their time to help make the event happen.

THL Renata Rouge, Kingdom A&S Minister, was called forth to speak of the activities of the Faire. She thanked all for coming and especially those that volunteered to act as assessors throughout the day. There were even some from another Kingdom who came just to assist with the assessing. She then spoke of those who put their work out for others to see and comment on. 16 individuals entered the Faire, 6 of whom had never done so before. These individuals were then called so that they could receive a gift from their sponsors.

It was then announced that THL Astridr vigaskegg had been selected as Populace Choice for her display that included period jello shots, candied egg yolks and cheesecake.

Her Majesty then spoke of how one of the duties of Queen is to be Patroness of the Arts and she had great fun visiting with all the entrants and learning about their arts. But there was one that moved her and she announced that THL Abigail Kelhoge was selected for the Queen’s Prize for her display and research into the making of parchment from animal hides. Lady Fionnghuala Leasa na Linne then asked for time and presented Their Majesties with a herd of camels that she hoped would help to entertain the children of the Sylvan Lands.

Her Majesty then said that another great joy she has is finding those who throughout the day inspire her to new heights. On this day she chose Nycaise D’ozier la Tailleresse, called Tailor, as her inspiration for her dedication to authenticity in clothing.
