Real Name (optional): Brandon Elliott

SCA Name & title: My tentative name is Feggi Farmadr, which roughly translates to “old man traveler.

I understand this was your first event, how did you find out about the SCA?

This was my first SCA event I have participated in. I first learned of the SCA when i was a child. I lived in Arizona, and one day at the local grocery store, my mother and I happened across people attending Estrella wars. After much begging and pleading my mother agreed to take me to watch. It was awe-inspiring.

Have you picked a persona? The persona that i am working on creating is a Viking

Tell us a little bit about your life outside the SCA.

Outside of the SCA, I retired from the US Army after 14 years. So now i enjoy learning new things, blacksmithing, cooking, studying history and spending time with my son, girlfriend, and her daughters.

What SCA activities do you hope to participate in down the road?

I would like to participate in more cooking competitions as well as delve into more arts and sciences.

What is the next event you plan to attend?

The next event we plan on attending is a yule celebration hosted in the Barony of Delftwood. We are also thinking of trying to attend Pennsic.

What was the most intimidating or confusing thing you encountered in visiting the SCA for the first time?

I would have to say that the most intimidating thing that had happened for me was during court when they called all people that were attending their first event. My son and I were bestowed gifts by the King and Queen. I fear I made a bumbling idiot of myself with the correct usage of titles. I confused Excellencies with Highness. So I must apologize to them for that.

What was the most interesting part of your first event?

The most interesting thing that my girlfriend and I had discussed was the sense of community you don’t often find these days. When i was competing in the cast iron chef, my girlfriend was watching the littles and people would stop and chat with her or help keep the kids occupied. Being the first event for all of us, the little ones were quite excited. Its something you don’t really see often. Even at parks and things that are family oriented.

If you could accomplish only one thing in the SCA in the next year, what would it be?

In the next year I would like to work on building a period campsite as well as increase my knowledge of period flavor profiles for cooking.

What advice would you give to a new person in the SCA, or if new yourself what question would you ask and who would you ask it of?

The advice I would give to someone interested in the SCA is to just try it. Its supposed to be fun. One of the things that I hear when talking about the SCA is that they would feel weird dressing in period. My reply is that they would probably feel more weird at an SCA event in blue jeans and a t-shirt than in a tunic and trousers.

If you magically woke up with an SCA talent you do not already have, what would it be?

A talent i would love to magically inherit is Illumination. It is a beautiful form of art.

Don’t be modest, what award or honor would you like to receive above all else and why?

I honestly don’t know what awards and honors there are. I was thrilled to be recognized by Baroness Amalie of Delftwood for some of my dishes at the cast iron chef.
