After consultation with Their Royal Majesties, the Deputy Kingdom Seneschal for Pandemics, and the Kingdom Earl Marshal, we are halting all fencing and heavy fighting activities (and any variant thereof) in AEthelmearc until August 30, 2020. This decision will be reviewed at that time (or possibly before) and if Their Majesties, the Kingdom Seneschal, the Deputy Kingdom Seneschal, and the Kingdom Earl Marshal agree, we will re-open fighting in AEthelmearc.
Obviously, this is not what we were hoping for. Sadly, our numbers and positivity rates across all three states (and across the U.S.) are going up. The most important thing is that we keep our members safe.
Oyez! Oyez! Please let it be known to all Nobles and Gentles across the vast and sylvan lands of Æthelmearc that Their Royal Majesties, Maynard & Liadain will hold a short court after Æthelmearc Æcademy. Please plan to join them this Saturday, July 11th at 7pm on Zoom and heed Their words. For those not on Zoom, Court will also be streamed to Facebook via the Kingdom of Æthelmearc page. For those who cannot join in live, a recording will be available on Ætube shortly afterwards.
Kingdom of Æthelmearc is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.
Topic: Æthelmearc Æcademy Court
Time: Jul 11, 2020 06:55 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada)
With the Æthelmearc populace at large getting comfortable with going virtual, we suddenly have opportunities to attend local meetings which otherwise would be too far of a drive, especially on a week night. To help the populace find and attend local groups’ arts & sciences meetings and activities, the Kingdom Ministry of Arts & Sciences is adding a calendar of (virtual) arts & sciences practices, organized on a local level but in these times of change, available to the kingdom at large.
Are you planning a demo on baking bread? A show and tell of all the intriguing knickknacks you’ve collected over the years that normally don’t leave the house? A special on nalbinding, different seam treatments, what have you? Help us get the word out, and you might get some out-of-towners enjoying the wonderful things your demo, workshop, or practice has to offer!
We would ask of the arts & sciences ministers and organizers to give us a quick heads up of your special event so we can add your awesome event to our kingdom A&S roster. The Kingdom Ministry of Arts & Sciences website now has a simple fill-in form to report your special practice, and the information will be collated and available to everyone – similar to the kingdom event page.
Come one, come all to the Virtual Spring Æthelmearc Æcademy! Enjoy a day of digital teaching and learning through our kingdom Zoom account.
We’ve got plenty of space for classes. We’ve got great opportunities to teach in new ways. And for those who might be wary of the digital space, we’ve got experienced folks to help make your class vision a reality.
When: July 11th, 2020 classes begin at 10 AM
Where: Your computer!
How? Sign up to be a student or a teacher. See the links below.
Please note – you do *have to sign up* to attend so we can make sure you have classroom access. However, registration is no obligation – if you sign up to be a student now and choose not to attend once the full class list is available, that’s just fine.
Duke Christopher Rawlins (mka Dr. Chadd Nesbit, System EMS Medical Director at Allegheny Health Network) has kindly offered to be Æthelmearc’s Deputy Kingdom Seneschal for Pandemics (and other duties

My thanks to Duke Christopher. I am so glad he is here to assist us.
Although the people of Æthelmearc and the Known World may be despondent at the postponement of our beloved War until next summer, the people of Pennsic have rallied like the army they are to the call of those in need!
At a time when medical bills and unemployment drive appeals to food banks to new heights and regular donors are unable to help, the #100kfromtheSCA initiative was created to combat the food shortage crisis in the Butler/Portersville area surrounding the Pennsic site with donations from Scadians across the world.
Now the people of Æthelmearc have one more reasons to look to our rulers with love and pride. At the command of Their Royal Majesties Maynard and Liadain, Kingdom Exchequer THNoble Rhys Penbras ap Dafydd donated Æthelmearc’s ENTIRE Pennsic Party fund for 2020 — totaling some $775 dollars — to the Portersville Food Pantry.
This disbursement from the hands of our gracious Monarchs brings the total to nearly $14,000, according to Cindy Burns, astonished food bank administrator.
One can only wonder if the rulers of the other signatory nations of the Pennsic Treaty will follow suit, or will the Virtue of our beloved monarchs stand unchallenged? VIVAT REX, VIVAT REGINA, VIVAT AETHELMEARC!
All those who wish to donate to them directly may due so by Paypal or Venmo via this link or by check to: Portersville Food Pantry, PO Box 102, Portersville, PA 16051.
Both the United Way and Portersville Food Pantry are 501(c)(3) charities, and all gifts are fully tax-deductible.

Greetings Æthelmearc from the Kingdom Thrown Weapons Marshal.
Because we are currently unable to gather for practices and events, I will be freezing the rankings. This also means that I will not be accepting score submissions until we are able to get together again.
Be safe, throw when you can, and I’ll see everyone on the other side of this mess.
COVID-19 is touching all of our lives and at this time our primary concern is the safety and well-being of our Pennsic Attendees, Cooper’s Lake Family and Staff:, the entire Community of people in and around Cooper’s Lake Campground we interact and depend upon, and our numerous vendors who supply our event. They are all part of the “Pennsic-War-Family”.
When I took on the office of Mayor of Pennsic 49, I promised to, and was entrusted with, the welfare and safety of the entire Pennsic Family. It is therefore with great sadness that I must inform you today that, we have decided to postpone Pennsic 49, scheduled for July 24, 2020 through August 9, 2020 to July 30, 2021 through August 15, 2021.
This postponement will come as heartbreaking news to many of you – and it has been an exceedingly difficult decision for us to make. Since the first Pennsic Wars at Cooper’s Lake we have been so proud to welcome people from all over the Knowne World to beautiful lands of Æthelmearc, but this year, sadly we cannot gather together as before.
As many of you have read in my previous COVID-19 updates, the impact of this terrible pandemic has effects that reach far past just those that attend Pennsic War. I will not go into all our considerations here again, you can all read my previous two posts that outline many of the factors we considered before making this decision. However, on this one occasion the emotion of Pennsic needed to be removed and the hard decision made.
It has been arranged with Cooper’s Lake Management, that those who have preregistered for Pennsic 49 may have their registrations rolled over to 2021.
If you desire a refund, please go to www.cooperslake.com and log into your pre-registration account.
Even if we cannot be together this July, we remain optimistic that the situation will soon improve. I know we are all very worried about the impact that COVID-19 is having on our loved ones and daily lives. My Pennsic team and I send you our very best wishes. We cannot wait to share time together at Cooper’s Lake again with you all.
Sir Gregory of Loch Swan
From Their Royal Majesties, Maynard & Liadain:
Noble populace, after much deliberation and consideration, Pennsic 49 will be postponed until 2021. We understand that this is disappointing and upsetting on many levels, for many reasons, however We fully support this decision.
The health and safety of our community, including the staff and hosts of this epic event, are of utmost importance. Please join us applauding the Pennsic Mayor, his staff and Kingdom Seneschals who were tasked to make this difficult call. Know that the horns of War will be heard again – this is but a delay. We will look to the future and will celebrate all that we continue to overcome.
