Documented from the Rolls and Files of the Coram Regibus of Thomas Byron II Rex and Ariella II Regina, King and Queen of Æthelmearc: Being a True Record of the Business of Their Royal Court at Their Crown Tournament, 7 May, Anno Societatis LVII, in the Barony of Blackstone Mountain. As recorded by Gwendolyn the Graceful, Brehyres, Meistr-y-gân, Jewel of Æthelmearc Herald, assisted by Drotinn jǫrundr hinn rotinn, Silver Buccle Herald.
Prior to opening the Procession, King Byron and Queen Ariella requested the presence of all combatants and consorts. Their Majesties expressed Their joy that all had been able to attend, despite the hazards of weather, and that Their own trek had deepened Their appreciation for the commitment already demonstrated by all who had persevered to be present.
Their Majesties also desired more personal words with The Honorable Lord Angus the Bull and his consort, Agnes Zwei Brücken. Finding it improper that a gentle of such grace as she should enter the tournament without title, Their Majesties were pleased to Award her Arms, so that she could further inspire as a member of the nobility. Scroll forthcoming. Court was then suspended.
At the conclusion of the Tournament, one stood victorious: Arnᚦorr inn Sterki. His Majesty placed the Heir’s crown upon Arnᚦorr’s brow, investing him with the office of Prince. Their Majesties passed unto Prince Arnᚦorr the crown of the consort, with which His Highness crowned his lady Ceinrech na Hinnsi, that she be known henceforth as Princess. The Heirs made oath of fealty to the Crown, and Court was once again suspended.

In the evening, Their Majesties and Their Highnesses, accompanied by Cunedda Kell and Alana of the Horseclans, Baron and Baroness of Blackstone Mountain, entreated Lorelei of Blackstone to allow the youth of the kingdom to pursue her for toys to pass the time in Court.
Their Majesties then extended leave to Baroness Alana, as Event Steward, to address the populace and offer thanks to all who worked, many at very short notice, to make the event a success. She shared the good news that Rose, who had been waylaid on her journey the night before, was home and safe once more. Their Majesties asked Her Excellency to pass on the well wishes of the Kingdom and the gratitude of the populace that she suffered no lasting harm.
Their Majesties invited Countess Margerite to speak on behalf of the Ladies of the Rose and Garnet. Her Excellency observed that the tournament had been a day full of many acts of chivalry, including The Honorable Lord Willem MacLear, who received a token from her hand. Her Highness also called forward Lord Bjarki Rikardson, to present him with Her token in recognition of his displays of honor upon the field. Her Excellency Margerite went on to say that there was one whose conduct was so surpassing exemplary that he was the clear choice to bear the Shield of Chivalry: The Honorable Lord Angus the Bull. Thus, with the Crown’s thanks, Posadik Zvonimir Zavodchikov was able to pass the Shield unto His Lordship Angus, and was relieved of his dutiful service as its former bearer.
Next, Their Majesties bade Thorin Marekson to present himself before Them. Citing his courteous demeanor and constantly helpful manner, They were moved to Award him Arms. Scroll illumination by The Honorable Lady Sumayya al-Ghaziyya, with wording and calligraphy by Mistress Illadore de Bedegrayne.
Their Majesties also sought Islief Marekson to speak with him of his equally unfailing service and courtly consideration. Judging his conduct in all ways to be that of a noble, They declared it right and proper that he, too, be Awarded Arms. Scroll by Nikolai Vasiliev Malkovich.
Following this, Their Majesties requested the presence of Viscount Sir Bear the Wallsbane, representing himself, Duke Malcolm MacEoghan, and Duchess Ilish O’Donovan. His Majesty remarked upon the perennial and indispensable nature of their bi-annual publication, “Bear’s Betting Man’s Guide to Crown Tourney.” Knowing that Their Majesties were not alone in thinking these pamphlets a great boon to the Kingdom, They bestowed upon His Excellency and Their Graces the Award of Excellence, in token of which, His Majesty presented them each with a deck of tarot to aid in their divinations, and pouches containing the collected coins struck for all the Crown Tournaments to date, to assist in the application of their speculative pursuits.
Their Majesties then desired that Lady Rannveigr Hrajshvelgsneys Alfvinsdottir make herself present to Them. Praising her many, years of service, not only in Æthelmearc but in the Midrealm, not only in Blackstone Mountain but in Port Oasis, not only as server, tollner, or steward, but in kitchens, classrooms, and everywhere between, and mindful of her service from an early age, They named her a Companion of the Order of the Keystone. Scroll forthcoming.
Their Majesties next wished to be attended by Lady Brienne Lachlan the Scorned, to speak to her also of the service she gives freely and joyfully to all. Her work capturing images from court, field, and hall, as well as the many hours she has spent assisting her Barony as its chatelaine, recommended her to Their Majesties and moved Them to create her a Companion of the Order of the Keystone. Scroll by The Honorable Lady Eleanore Godwin.
Lord Nicolo Loredan da Venesia was next called before the Royal Presence. To Nicolo, Their Majesties spoke of his dedication to the art of defense, both as practical skill and in its careful study and historical provenance. In recognition of his research and artistry in historical rapier study, They named him a Companion of the Order of the Sycamore. Scroll by The Honorable Lady Gesa von Wellenstein on wording by Baron Caleb Reynolds.
Their Majesties then welcomed Baroness Sigrid Schreiber into Their Presence. They noted her propitious skill in the art of portraiture, and her long dedication to her skills’ perfection. Understanding that there were others who had taken similar note of Her Excellency’s talent, They called for Their Noble Order of the Fleur D’Æthelmearc to witness the induction of their newest Companion. Scroll by The Honorable Lady Nichola Beese.
At this time, Their Majesties required the attendance of Their Noble Order of the Millrind. Noting with pleasure that many, many members of the populace were among this number, They nevertheless desired to bring additional Companions forward to join this august body:
First, They called upon Sir Beatrix Krieger, for her unfailing willingness to leap in and help wherever needed. Scroll wording by Master Po Silvertop, calligraphy by Master Jon Blaecstan, and illumination by Maîtresse Melisandre of the Gryphon Wood.
Next, They desired Lady Thalia Papillon to step forward, and Granted her Arms as a Companion of the Millrind for her varied forms of service, including archery marshal, mistress of lists, event steward, and both guard and retainer to the Courts of Æthelmearc. Scroll by The Honorable Lady Gesa von Wellenstein on wording by Baron Caleb Reynolds.
Finally, but not least, They entreated Baron Cunedda and Baroness Alana to join the Order as its Companions for their unflagging service to the Barony of Blackstone Mountain, as custodians of the Barony and as its leaders – twice. Promissory scrolls a work in progress by Baroness Ekaterina Volkova.
Her Majesty spoke of the many gentles who gave up their time in order to assure that the day could progress, but chiefest among these, Her Majesty wished to recognize The Honorable Lady Odette D’Arques as Her inspiration of the day.
Their Majesties recognized all scribes who contributed to the Court that day and invited them to partake of supplies to replenish their inventories.
There being no further business, Court was closed.
Faithfully Submitted,

Greetings unto Æthelmearc from Maynard and Liadain, King and Queen of these Sylvan Lands.
We are thrilled that the date for Our Crown Tournament has been announced for August 21, 2021 in Our Shire of Misty Highlands. Our Seneschal, Master Illadore, has provided an excellent video announcement with details here.
Our greatest wish is to host a grand tournament, boasting a large number of combatants and spectators showcasing and witnessing the prowess and chivalry of Æthelmearc.
However, as you may be aware, we are currently limited to 150 attendees. We therefore strongly request that combatants and consorts only submit a letter of intent for entry if they are confident of being present and participating in the tournament in Misty Highlands on August 21, 2021. Should the current attendance restriction by the BoD not be increased or lifted, this may result in those not running the event or participating in the tournament being unable to attend.
Furthermore, we ask that entrants into the tournament seriously consider what victory and being royalty during a pandemic entails. We encourage you to reach out to us with questions.
In order to get back on track as a Kingdom, the preferred date for Coronation is September 25, 2021. Alternate dates may include September 18 or October 1.
This is a very quick turnaround time, and entrants should consider the following prior to Crown Tournament as Our Heirs will be required to advise Us of their preferred option on the day of their victory; given that events and attendance are limited, Our Heirs may choose to have a virtual Coronation, at an event hosted locally or at another event scheduled on the dates above. Should none of these options be viable, Coronation will occur on the morning of October Crown Tournament.
Letters of intent are due to Us by July 21, 2021. We will limit those requirements outside of Kingdom Law to the following:
Prospective consorts must be present at the tournament.
Each combatant and consort must display a banner during the grand procession.
All modern armor and equipment must be covered. This includes modern sports equipment, company logos, bright-colored or blatantly plastic armor, etc. These may be worn but concealed with a heraldic tabard, surcoat, or similar covering. Modern footwear is acceptable if disguised or understated (i.e., black or brown).
Please also review the section of Kingdom law listing requirements included below. Contact us if you have any questions regarding any of these requirements. Be mindful that letters of intent must be postmarked or received by the Crown no later than 30 days prior to Crown Tournament (July 21, 2021). Confirmation of receipt will be provided as received. Please contact us via email if you have any concerns.
(Postal address included in email missive and available upon request.)
Letters of intent must include the following elements for both entrants:
SCA names
Legal names
Postal Addresses
Telephone numbers
E-mail addresses
Proofs of membership
Age (proof to be supplied at Crown Tournament) and
Proof of current authorization for Combatants.
We would also request that the preferred titles of both fighter and consort are included in letters of intent to ensure accuracy and promote pageantry (ex. Noble, Lord, THLady, Baroness, Sir, Mistress, etc.) There is also an online Letter of Intent Form available on the Kingdom Website here.
III-100 Entrants in this section of Law are defined as the combatant and consort entering Crown Tournament.
III-200 All entrants in the Crown Tournament must be members of the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc.
III-300 All entrants in the Crown Tournament must be 18 years of age or older as of the date of Crown Tournament.

The Crown may waive the above requirements if the entrants are subjects of the Kingdom and able to demonstrate to the Crown’s satisfaction by their own words or by recommendation of peers of the Kingdom that they have sufficient familiarity with Kingdom Law and customs and an acceptable level of participation.
III-600 Letters of intent must be sent to the Crown. They must include the following elements for both entrants: • SCA names • Legal names • Addresses • Telephone numbers • E-mail addresses • Proofs of membership • Age (proof to be supplied at Crown Tournament) • Proof of current authorization for Combatants

If one member of a combatant couple voluntarily withdraws as a combatant in the Lists, the MOL and Marshal will confer with the withdrawing member to determine if they are also withdrawing as consort or if the other member may continue in the Lists. If the participant withdraws both as fighter and consort, both shall be ineligible to continue in that Crown Tournament.
III-1200 The preferred method of Crown Tournament is a double-elimination format.
III-1300 The winner of the Crown Tournament and the winner’s consort become the new Heirs to the Throne of Æthelmearc. They are each entitled to the Title of Crown Prince or Crown Princess, as appropriate to the individual’s persona.
III-1301 Upon ascending to the Throne, They may rightfully be acknowledged as Monarch and Consort with alternate Titles as appropriate to the dignity of the Throne.
This announcement is from the Kingdom Seneschal, Master Illadore de Bedegrayne.
Greetings to the Populace of Æthelmearc!
SHORT VERSION: Crown to be held in Misty Highlands, August 21st , 2021, letters due to Their Majesties by July 21st, Coronation to be held hopefully in September, with an October Crown following. If you plan on entering this tournament, please listen to this video/read this email in full, as it has specific requirements.
First and foremost, Letters of Intent to Their Majesties must be provided no later than 30 days prior to Crown Tourney- so by July 21, 2021. We highly recommend using the online form on the Kingdom website. The form will be turned on within a few days by our Kingdom Webminister. You may also use email or regular mail but we recommend sending that in quickly.
As we are limited to 150 people who may attend an event, pre-registration to Crown Tourney for those other than Their Majesties, required officers, staff, or entrants will open after July 21st date. Pre-registration will be required. Crown tourney will be live-streamed for those who cannot attend. A more formal event announcement will be forthcoming. Please understand that if the BOD does not lift the 150 person rule, if you are not a combatant couple or staff, you might not be able to attend.
Coronation: The preferred date for Coronation is September 25, 2021. Alternate dates may include September 18 or October 1. New Heirs will have the option of having their Coronation online, at a small local event (say in a park), or another event scheduled in September. Should none of these options be viable, Coronation will occur on the morning of October Crown Tournament. Heirs will need to choose which option they would prefer on the day of their victory. This is not the norm as most Æthelmearc heirs have several months to make Coronation happen. This decision was made due to our desire to get back on track as a Kingdom.
October Crown: It is our intent to have another Crown in October, with letters due to The Heirs 30 days prior to the event. The details for October Crown are still being determined but the preferred date will be October 16th or later. The October Heirs would step up in April 2022.
As you can see, Combatants and Consorts who enter the August 2021 Crown tournament need to consider not only what it means to be Royalty during a pandemic but also the time commitment for the quick turnaround for Coronation and the next Crown Tourney.
I know you may have many questions. Please feel free to contact me at seneschal@aethelmearc.org and I will do my best to answer them.
Illadore de Bedegrayne
Kingdom Seneschal
