Æthelmearc Æcademy and War College Needs Teachers

AEcademy headerMedievally speaking, what gets your creative juices flowing?

Is it getting your hands dirty making stuff?

Is it figuring out how things were done?

Delving into the when and where and why of medieval life?

Is it learning something you didn’t know before?

Is it learning more about something that intrigues you?

If you answered “YES!” to any of these questions, consider teaching at Æthelmearc Æcademy and War College, hosted by the Shire of Ballachlagan (Wheeling, WV), on June 11.

So far, we have 25 classes (that’s 31 class-hours!) scheduled, on these topics: Bardic, Brewing, Clothing, Dance, Embroidery, Heraldry, History, Metalworking, Research, SCA Life, Scribal, Youth Track, War College — Fencing (for a listing of class titles and descriptions, please visit the Æcademy website).

But sadly, there are NO classes (yet) in Cooking, Equestrian Arts, or Fiber Arts. If you’ve never taught at Æcademy (or if it’s been a while), no problem! It’s easy to register — Just go to the Æcademy registration page and supply the requested information about yourself and your class.

If you’ve never taught a class (or have taught but are still a bit nervous about teaching), I have a solution! On Saturday of Æthelmearc War Practice, from 3 to 4 pm, I’ll be teaching a class called “Documentation to Class,” which will give you ideas to turn what you know into a successful class.

If you have signed up to teach at Pennsic, consider teaching at Æcademy as a “dress rehearsal.” Teaching in June will give you time to fine-tune your class. Plus, the feedback and experience will boost your confidence.

If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at ae.aecademy@aethelmearc.org.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Yours, in Service to the Arts,

Mistress Alicia Langland

Ballachlagan, Court Report, Dance

Documented from the Scrolls of the Reign of Timothy & Gabrielle II, King and Queen of Æthelmearc: the Business of Their Majesties’ Court at Dance in the Sylvan Sun, 22 August Anno Societatis L, in the Shire of Ballachlagan. As recorded by Their Silver Buccle Herald, Kameshima-kyō Zentarō Umakai.

In the afternoon:

On August 22, 2015, Timothy and Gabrielle, Rex and Regina Æthelmearc, in open Court expelled Derek Holton, known in the Society as Blue Star from participation in any aspect of the SCA.

In the evening:

The children of Æthelmearc were called forth and sent to amuse themselves under the guidance of Gisele of Arindale.

Their Majesties invited Mistress Lidia Allen into Their Court so that They might witness her presenting an Apprentice Belt to Lady Cassandra Matis, which she happily accepted.

His Majesty received a troubling missive from his agents within the East and Middle Kingdoms. Æthelmearc’s thwarting of the recent invasion attempt by the Royalty of those lands is not sitting well. Their Majesties Darius and Ragnvaldr have hatched another plot to take the lands of Æthelmearc for their own. The agents have discovered that Their Majesties will bring Their plans to fruition at Summer’s End.

There being no further business, Their Majesties’ Court was closed.

Good musicians of Æthelmearc!

danceJanuary 10 is Æthelmearc Kingdom 12th night! Among the many activities (bardic

Please come to the Ball! Entertain and delight us as we dance to your music. The set list is on the event website here. The music is from the Pennsic Pile 43.  Please come share your skill and music on this most glorious occasion!

Sionn, the Lost

(If you plan to attend and play, feel free to let me know beforehand so I can ensure you have all the information/music you require. Regardless, we will be glad to see and hear you at the event.)
