In deference to the treacherous driving conditions on the horizon, horrendous day-of weather, and in consultation with Their Majesties and the primary players…it was decided to cancel the Endless Hills post-parade practice/court/vigil/knighting.
This is heartbreaking, but less so than if someone were hurt due to wintery weather on the way to/from.
I apologize for the late notice but…we held out hope we could squeak by and be safe. It was not to be. We will post follow-up information as we get it.
This is a PSA (Po Service Announcement) from Steel Therapy:
New Year’s Eve. You’ve stuffed yourself full. You’ve dealt with family and friends, partied (or drunk, or danced, read, napped, whatever) all the way to midnight, and then snogged anyone within range…
…and now, what you really need is to stab someone.. Or many someones… Luckily, there is an opportunity…
Donnan has a Party… Cyrus has an Academy… Po has … New Year’s Resolutions! “Fence MORE! More fencing is MORE FENCING!”
As has become the tradition, we’ll give the New Year 12 hours head start and then come after it, smiling with rapiers in hand! We’ll have space for fencing and/or rattan, and tables for camaraderie. I’m sure the Endless Voices will be singing in the corner somewhere. There will be time for tourneys and pickups, games and schmoozing, and who knows what else! (Steel Therapy, as always, is already conspiring tourney ideas…)
This is an open, sanctioned event. While there will be no charge, we’ll ask folks to help as we pass the hat.
Due to COVID restrictions, masks will be required. Please be prepared to show proof of vaccination or a negative test within 72 hours of event. We will not be doing a potluck but there will be multiple food options available in the mall adjoining.
We’ll be starting at noon on January 1, 2022 going through 8:00 pm at:
Ovation Theatre Performance Space in the old Sears building in the Wyoming Valley Mall
29 Wyoming Valley Mall
Wilkes Barre, PA 18702
Autocrat for this event is Master Po Silvertop, email here.

Being the Chronicle of the Courts of Timothy and Gabrielle, King and Queen of Sylvan Æthelmearc, held on the first day of January, AS 54 (2020), at New Year’s Resolutions in the Barony of Endless Hills. Submitted by Lord Snorri skyti Bjarnarson, Jewel of Æthelmearc Herald.
Court was opened after a fine day of fighting, and Their Majesties, having been seated upon Their thrones, bade the assembled populace to seek their comfort, then gave leave to Their Excellencies Endless Hills to conduct their court.
At the completion of the Baronial Court, the court of Their Majesties was again resumed, and they had summoned before them Dauidh O’Doolin. They spoke of his activities as a fencer and his helpfulness, and spake that they were desirous of many more subjects of this caliber, and so saw fit to Award him Arms, to be determined at a later date in consultation with their College of Heralds, with a promissory scroll writ by THL Alianora Bronhulle.

Once Lord Dauidh had departed, Their Majesties next demanded the presence of Daven M’Kinnay. They spoke warmly of his helpfulness transporting many gentles to various weekly practices and his efforts at those practices as well, and so desired to also Award him Arms, to be determined at a later date in consultation with their College of Heralds, with a promissory scroll writ by THL Alianora Bronhulle.

Once Lord Daven had departed, Their Majesties then required the attendance of Bjorn of Nithgaard. Words came from our King of this man’s work in the fencing community, and as Their Majesties were well-pleased by this, it was decided by Them that it was necessary to Award him Arms, to be determined at a later date in consultation with their College of Heralds, with a promissory scroll writ by THL Alianora Bronhulle.

As the cheering settled, Their Majesties requested the Scarlet Guard Herald come before them, Lord Nikola Gaetano. Words were said of his service in the heraldic community, and then Their Majesties deemed it just to induct him into the Order of the Keystone, with a scroll from Lady Gemina of Krull.

Next, Their Majesties called for His Lordship Lotharius qui et Segimundus, and spoke glowingly of his hard work running practices and helping at events, quiet but necessary service for the continued operation of our Society. Because of this service, they inducted him into the Order of the Keystone, with a promissory scroll writ by THL Alianora Bronhulle.

Their Majesties next called for the attendance of Their Noble Order of the Millrind. His Majesty opined that their order seemed to be short a member, and so had Lady Julianna Woolworth brought before the throne. His Majesty spoke of her efforts cooking feasts, running fundraisers, and acting as Baronial Seneschal, and so saw fit to add her name to the rolls of that order, with a scroll writ by Mistress Arianna of Wynthrope.
THL Julianna is inducted into the Millrind.
After that, Their Majesties both stood, and began to speak of a particular gentle, of whom they had become most dependent on during this reign, who had become a constant presence and solid backstop for all to lean against on the Royal staff. Their Majesties then had called before them Her Ladyship Antoinette de Lorraine, and made her a Baroness of Their Court, with a scroll by Baroness Barbary Rose.
Lady Antoinette is made a Court Baroness.
Finally, Their Majesties called for all scribes there present who had contributed to the day’s court, and gave unto each of them a token from their own hands.
There being no further business, court was adjourned.
Some minutes later, court was re-opened, and Their Majesties invited Lady Christina Mary Lowe, called Jinx, and spoke quietly to her of her accomplishments in the arts, and created her a member of the Order of the Sycamore, with a promissory scroll writ by THL Alianora Bronhulle.

There were monthly Tournaments (in Fencing and Heavy) with all winners gaining admission to a final tournament held on January 1, 2019. Each of these tournaments were different, playing on different strength and weaknesses of the combatants. Each winner of this will receive a sword, a hand carved horn from Valhalla horns, and a few more prizes being thrown in the day of. You didn’t have to be a member of the Barony to win. We now are happy to announce our finalists.

Don Po became Endless Hills Fencing Champion earning himself a spot.
April saw two new winners with THL Caitrina Gordon on the fencing side and Lord Ulfkell Dunglesson winning those tourneys. Conversely May saw two repeat winners with Lord Attila and Sir Murdoch earning themselves first round byes.
At melee Madness Memorial Day weekend Sir Thorsol and Baintighearna Ania gained admission though their skill at arms.
The heat of the summer brought us 5 winners, in June Don Po secured himself a first round bye, and THL Heinrich fought hard to win himself a spot. In July to locals to Endless Hills, Lord Chaghagan and Lord Vassilis both got there ticket into the tourney, but in August, traveling from a faraway land Baron Fearghus prevailed.
As fall came to the Endless Hills new comer Agnar won the fencing tourney, with the spectacular Sir Beatrix dominating the field. October brought another new comer to the Fencing forefront, Ivar, and yet another Peer, Master Tigernach took the heavy tourney. As autumn came to a close, Don Jehan overcame his fencing opponents, and Lord Gregory outlasted his heavy rivals.
Finally in December, the Fencers had two winners, THL Alianora Bronhulle, and Lord Ian Douglas, and in Heavy Righ-Tuatha Cormacc capped off the year.
Their Excellencies each chose a fencer and a heavy among all of the tourney spots, as all fought accorded themselves well at multiple Tourneys. His Excellency chose, Lady Jenevieve, and Lord Salvador, her Excellency chose Lord Damiano, and THL Sterling.
Any one of these fighters can win. Reported by Baroness Ekaterina Volkova, Jewel of Æthelmearc Herald, assisted by THL Sophie Davenport, Silver Buccle Herald and Brehyres Gwendolyn the Graceful.
In the Morning:
Each combatant and consort couple was called forward; each couple presented an item for the A&S display. At the end of Kára Hróksdóttir‘s song (her A&S item), she dropped to a knee and asked her Champion, Lord Laegaire mac Conaill Meic Shiadahail to marry her. He said yes.

The Earl Marshall’s representative, Duke Maynard von dem Steine, had words about honor on the list and grievances end once the combatants leave the list. The Seneschal’s representative, Baroness Hildarun Hugelmann, read words from His Grace. Their Majesties followed with words to the same effect. Her Majesty then spoke about consort inspiration and drew the random pairings to begin the tournament. The court remained open throughout the day.
Upon the Field after the Tournament:
Upon confirmation by the Marshal in Charge, Duke Titus Scipio Germanicus was called before Their Majesties and declared victor and Prince of Æthelmearc. His Majesty placed the Heir’s Coronet upon His Highness’ head. It was then said that no Champion can succeed without a source of Inspiration. His Highness then placed the Heir’s Coronet upon the head of Countess Anna Leigh, naming her Princess of Æthelmearc and wished her a happy birthday.

THL Aine O’Muirghesan, Kingdom Chronicler, came forth and swore her oath as a Kingdom Officer. Their Majesties, however did not give her leave to depart for there was some unfinished business with her. It had been discovered that Her Ladyship had not been present in the court where she was inducted into the Order of the Millrind and had thus not received her scroll. This was remedied and the scroll, illuminated by THL Phelippe Ulfsdotter, was presented to her.

She serves as Seneschal, chatelaine, autocrat, retainer and anything else that needs doing. Because there was no stopping her, the only thing to be done was to name her into the Order of the Millrind. Lady Asa Helgulfsdottir was called before Her Majesty. Queen Siobhán spoke of how it is her joy to look among the populace and find inspiration in Her subjects. Lady Asa has routinely inspired Her Majesty to try just a bit harder, go a bit further, do just a bit more. For this Lady Asa was named Queen’s Inspiration for the day and presented with a token of appreciation.

There being no further business, court was closed.
2018 is the 20th anniversary of Endless Hills becoming a Barony. In celebration, Their Excellencies, Verde and Fiona, have declared that there will be a Year of Tournaments, culminating in a Grand Tournament on January 1st, 2019. January 23rd saw the first qualifying tournaments.
Don Po ran the first Fencing Tournament. We had a great turn-out with 10 fencers coming in from groups across Æthelmearc and the East Kingdom to fence in the tournament. The format was a “Throw Me Under the Bus,” Bear Pit. The fencers fought their first two bouts like a traditional bear pit, but if they made it to their third fight, the fencer got to pick their opponent from anyone in line. The competition was furious, but in the end there must be a victor and that victor was Lord Lucha Delion of ACG. Initially tied for second place were Lady Jenevieve Spillane of Hartshorn, Dale, and Curt the Confused of Endless Hills, with Lady Jenevieve edging out second place. Lord Lucha also walked away with the Bragging Stick of Endless Hills. If you want it, track him down and challenge him for it.
On the Heavy side there were six heavy fighters who competed. It was a standard best of three Round Robin tournament. Completion was as close as it could be, with three fighters tying for the win: THL Lotharius, Lord Ulfkell Dongelsson, and Baron Cormacc mac Gilla Brigde. The three went into a sudden death round. First up were THL Lothar and Baron Cormacc, with Lothar coming out on top. Next up, Baron Cormacc fought Lord Ulfkell, with Cormacc taking the victory. The third match was THL Lothar against Lord Ulfkell, with Ulfkell coming out on top. Once again, a tie. This forced yet another round. After 2 very dramatic tie-breaker rounds, Baron Cormacc squeaked out a victory, with THL Lothar finishing second and Lord Ulfkell third.
Lord Lucha and Baron Cormacc are the first to earn one of the 16 spots for the Grand Tournaments.
There will be plenty more opportunities to earn a spot. There will be a Fencing Tourney the first Tuesday of every month and a heavy tournament the third Tuesday of every month in 2018. These tournaments are open to all combatants who are authorized in the fighting style that they are competing in. Both will be at 8pm with doors opening at 7pm, at the Jackson Township Fire Hall, 1160 Chase Road, Shavertown, PA 18708. Come help the Endless Hills celebrate the Year of Tournaments!
Here continues the Record of the Reign of Gareth and Juliana, King and Queen of Sylvan Æthelmearc at Fasching, November 25, AS 52, in Their Barony of Endless Hills; as recorded by Lord Arias Beltran del Valle, Jewel of Æthelmearc Herald.
Her Majesty Juliana gave leave to Verdi and Fiona, Baron and Baroness of the Endless Hills, to hold their Baronial court.
Be it known: On November 25, 2017 do We, Gareth and Juliana, King and Queen of Æthelmearc, expel Matthew Gibson, known in the Society as Tegrinus de Rhina, from participation in any SCA activity.
Her Majesty then called forward Romey Feuerherrts to attend Her. Romey was then tasked with conveying the children’s toy chest away from the Royal Presence so the children of the Kingdom might be entertained during the court. Having given Romey the traditional head start, the children were then sent to find her and their reward.
Her Majesty then invited forward all those who were attending their first event and, as has become Their tradition, gave each a drinking vessel that they may be better equipped to attend events in the Society in the future.
Lady Valgerdr inn Rosti was summoned before Her Majesty. Word of Lady Valgerdr’s work as the co-autocrat for events and logistical support, and her time spent retaining for the Kingdom and the Barony, had reached Their Majesties’ ears, and so did They think it right to name her a companion of the Order of the Keystone. Scroll by Lady Kadlin Sigvalda Kohna.
Her Majesty then summoned to Her Lady Julianna Woolworth. Her work in cooking and pickling different foods was on display even that day as she labored in the kitchens to provide plenty of tasty food for those attending the Fasching event. For her efforts was she named to the Order of the Sycamore. Scroll illumination by Lady Shirin of Susa and calligraphy by Isabella Montoya.
Lord Tufa Die Munthus was called to appear before Her Majesty after Her business with his lady was concluded. He, too, had labored long and hard in the kitchens that day, and was also known for brewing his own cordials and meads. So was he made to be counted amongst the order of the Sycamore. Scroll illumination by Gillian McGill De Verona and calligraphy by Mistress Antoinette de la Croix.
Her Majesty bade him stay a moment longer. Having seen his work in the kitchens that day, and his tireless efforts to make the event entertaining (and tasty!) for all, She did name him Her inspiration for the day and awarded him a Golden Escarbuncle.
Her Majesty then thanked those scribes present who had contributed to those works handed out this day, and called for the populace to crusade with Their Majesties and represent Their lands at Gulf Wars in the coming year.
There being no further business before Them, the Court of Her Majesty was then concluded.

The Battle of Clontarf in the Barony of the Endless Hills
Barony of the Endless Hills, April 30, 2016
On April 23, 1014, at first light, the battle of Clontarf began, and by sunset, between 7,000 and 10,000 men were dead and the history of Ireland was changed forever. Much of Irish lore still holds that the Battle of Clontarf freed the Irish from foreign domination.
On April 30, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. (slightly later than first light), the third Battle of Clontarf will begin in the Barony of the Endless Hills, and by 7:00 p.m. (a bit before sunset), warriors and spectators alike will make their way home from a day of fighting and fun.
Do you like fighting with rattan? We have it!
Do you like fencing? We have it!
Do you like archery? We have it!
Is thrown weapons more your speed? We have it!
Do you prefer the elegance and beauty of A&S? We have it!
Perhaps you just prefer to relax around friends and enjoy delicious food? We absolutely have it!!!!
For those who have a penchant for martial activities, Clontarf will be hosting fencing tournaments run by Lord Alain Piat. Baron Murdock Bayne will be running a heavy tournament of honor which will include a procession and presentation to give up-and-coming fighters an opportunity to learn what they’ll experience if and when they fight for crown.
Baron Verdi and Baroness Fiona will be choosing their Baronial A/S champion at Clontarf, so all are invited (and encouraged) to bring their A&S projects to show off.
Archery is also on the schedule, as well as thrown weapons.
And, if that wasn’t sufficient enticement, Baron Perote Campbell will again be preparing a sumptuous dayboard for attendees.
There may be other events at the far ends of the Kingdom, but none where you will be made as welcome and appreciated as the Barony of the Endless Hill’s Battle of Clontarf. For details and other information, please contact Lord Cormacc mac Gilla Brigde.
