Change to Kingdom Zoom Password Policy

As Zoom has become much better in the past year with security and reporting options, we are changing our no posting rule for Zoom passwords.

You will be allowed to post passwords for Zoom on public social media and website one (1) week before an online activity, provided that the activity’s zoomerator(s) & host(s) actively watch for inappropriate/harmful activity from (unknown/unfamiliar) participants and report as necessary.

We hope that this will be a most helpful step going forward!

Also, for all to know, the Kingdom has reupped Zoom for another year. Please submit your requests for online activities using the Kingdom Zoom at http://aethelmearc.org/zoom-room-availability-sign-ups/.

Good Morning, Æthelmearc!

Please join me in welcoming Andere Magdalena Txoperena de Guerra to the Webministry as our Online Classes/Zoom Deputy.

She will be in charge of the Zoom Scheduling as well as assisting with set up of online classes and scholas that use the Kingdom Zoom account.

Greetings Æthelmearc, We have another great ÆLive show lined up for this Saturday, June 27 at 7pm. As always, the show will feature entertainment, games, trivia, interviews, comedy, and news from around the Kingdom! When the show is over, remember to stick around for Æthelchat!!!

This episode we’ll be celebrating “favorite things.” What does that mean? How about: wear your favorite garb/accessories to watch the show, use your favorite mug with your choice beverage, send a happy message to a beloved pal or share a favorite story – it doesn’t have to be ALL the things. As we have done before we will assemble a little slide show featuring pictures that you submit, so please send your pictures featuring your favorite things by email to aeliveathome@outlook.com before the episode starts and they might be featured!

Greetings Æthelmearc,

ÆLive returns this Saturday, June 6 at 7 PM!

For this ÆLive episode, we are looking for pictures featuring hats.

As always we enjoy seeing our friends and hope that YOU will send in a picture of yourself with a medieval hat.

A small slideshow will be generated of pictures we receive and all who watch the episode will be able to enjoy the beautiful hats, the creative hats, the artistic hats and all hats in between.

Zoom Update Needed

webministerFrom the Kingdom Webminister, Baroness Amalie, regarding Zoom, the conferencing service used by the Kingdom and its people for online gatherings, meetings, AE Live, and similar:

Please note that there is a Zoom client update (to Zoom 5.0) that *must* be done by May 30th on any laptop/desktop. (Presumably, phones/tablets will ask you to update or do an auto-update depending on your settings.)

If you do not update your client, from what I understand, you will have an interruption in using Zoom. Zoom will attempt to update automatically after the 30th. If it does not update, or you do not want to update, you will be forced to use the browser method of using Zoom.

This update will fix many outstanding security flaws from older client versions and there will be new security features rolled out with this update.

Please, in order to not have to Zoom update at the time of your meeting or the next AELive, go to http://zoom.us and click the orange update now button and update your zoom client. (Direct link to the download page is https://zoom.us/download)

Æthelmearc Online – Kingdom Court Ætherial and More!

In these strange times, the Kingdom’s people may not be able to enjoy one another’s presence, but many Æthelmearcers have been hard at work, ensuring that eSCA is alive and well! Below you’ll find information on:

  • How to reserve your Zoom Room for your eSCA activity, courtesy of the Kingdom
  • Zoom connection testing times (today, tomorrow and Saturday) and instructions – for anyone attending any Zoom session

Their Majesties Timothy and Gabrielle will be hosting a Court Ætherial on Saturday, March 28th, at 1pm! They will be awarding all accolades for the remainder of Their Reign, except Peerages.

If you are hosting any SCA-related activity online (classes, meetings, demonstrations, socials), it can now be added to the Kingdom Calendar! This can be both personally-hosted or local-branch hosted.

If you need a virtual place to hold an SCA online activity, the Kingdom now has a Zoom account that you can use! There are 8 virtual rooms that can be used simultaneously, so don’t be shy! To request:

There will be several sessions for the Kingdom’s populace to try out and test their Zoom connections:

    • Log in anytime on Thurs 3/26, 6pm-10pm; Fri 3/27, 6pm-10pm; and Sat 3/28 9am-11am

    • You’ll need to download the Zoom app, but you do not need to create an account. Here are some instructions on how to join a Zoom meeting.
