The Barony-Marche of the Debatable Lands has made the radical decision to change its name.

“Really, when you think about it, there’s nothing debatable about our lands anymore,” observed one former seneschale, who wishes to remain anonymous.

There are also those who believe the Barony’s name contributed to the very old and rather annoying Pennsic rumor that the loser gets Pittsburgh. “The winner of Pennsic should get Pittsburgh!” said Mistress Irene von Schmetterling.

After consultation with the membership, the new name that was chosen was the “Barony of the Wet Tortugas,” given Pittsburgh’s long association with pirates. Initially, the suggestion was “Dry Tortugas,” but everyone agreed that there is nothing dry about Pittsburgh.

The Baronial Seneschale has requested Letters of Marque from the Prince and Princess for the upcoming Pennsic War, though it won’t be known against whom these letters will be issued until Their Highnesses announce which side Æthelmearc will be fighting for this year.

The Arms of the Barony will remain the same, though it is rumored that the Jolly Roger may be added in canton.

Their Excellencies, Baroness Prima and Baroness Violeta, were unavailable for comment.
