The Editorial staff of the Gazette has regained control!
To explain, several weeks ago a new editor joined our staff. Some members of the Gazette team were suspicious of this individual. Their e-mail address, Ninja.MacNinjaface@SCAllion.org, might have been a clue as to their intent. We all thought it was a very generous offer when they volunteered to act as Editor-of-the-Day while the rest of us were at Coronation. Boy, were we surprised.
The Editor-in-Chief has suspended Ninja MacNinjaface for 52 weeks.
We now return you to our regularly scheduled programming.
Greetings Æthelmearc, especially all webministers:
We are happy to announce that our form server has been moved to the Kingdom server, in line with some of our current goals and data policy requests from the SocWeb. This was the final outstanding item from the Kingdom server move of 2020.
You may now start filling out web forms again, such as the Award Recommendation and Webminister Report Forms. The Form Server looks and feels the same as before, except for the URL. Previously, the URL started with https://ae.scaforms.org, but now it should start with https://aeforms.aethelmearc.org. All links to forms have been updated on the Kingdom website.
We have requested that the old server be shut down as soon as possible. We kindly ask that you check any links on your website, especially those related to Officer websites or bookmarks on your Internet browser, to ensure they are updated as well.
If you notice any issues or forms not functioning properly, please notify the Æ Helpdesk at helpdesk@aethelmearc.org. If possible, please include a screenshot.
Thank you for your patience during this transition. In service,

The Society is currently assessing the Anti-Drag Legislation recently passed in Tennessee, in addition to the proposed similar legislation in 14 other US states. The Corporate Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer, in conjunction with SCA Inc.’s Legal Counsel and President, is undertaking an impact assessment for the Board.
This aims to determine potential impacts for the Society’s participants in terms of public interaction and other potential safety consequences.
Why a Wiki?
A wiki allows for a group to develop and maintain shared information. Rather than having a top-down flow of information this allows for many people to contribute information in an easy-to-access way. It also can promote people sharing what they have either contributed to or accomplished within a community. This helps to encourage individuals who might not feel comfortable sharing in a larger context, to share what they’re passionate about with others in an accessible way. In short, a wiki fosters community through shared information.
Memorandum of Purpose
The Unofficial Æthelmearc Wiki is a place to gather the history, customs, and shared culture of the Kingdom of Æthelmearc of the SCA. This purpose is furthered and enhanced by encouraging the people of Æthelmearc to participate and contribute generously.
Less formally, the wiki is also a place where the populace of Æthelmearc can share history and knowledge of themselves, their personas, their participation within the Society, and other elements of factual and personal natures. Pages about people are to be left to be edited by those individuals and will only include the information that they provide. Some pages exist for persons of historical importance to Æthelmearc and are not associated with an individual wiki account. These pages serve to reflect the historical record, and contributions to these pages should be limited to factual content and should be made with citations when possible.
What Kinds of Things May I Add to the Wiki?
This is a non-exhaustive list of the kinds of things that you can contribute to the Wiki:
A populace page where you would list your awards, contributions, and successes.
Write an entry about your area of study: Cooking, Leatherwork, Brewing, Clothing, etc.
Write about your Barony, Shire, Canton, or College.
Create an article about the history of your Household
Write about songs or poems you or someone else has written (ex: “Scarlet”), with lyrics and the story behind why you wrote it.
Create an “In Memoriam” article about someone we have lost.
Share pictures
The possibilities are broad and it entirely depends on what kind of information you would like to share. We are also discussing improvements that can be made over time to make the Wiki a more valuable resource.
How Else Can I Participate?
There are opportunities available for topic-specific editors, general assistance, and subject-matter experts. Please visit the Current Events page for details. We also have a Discord channel.
Information Sharing and Security
Given the open nature of a Wiki, there have been some concerns expressed about information security and how the editors will handle vandalism.
In order to create a page for yourself, you will need to create an account and then provide the information you choose to share in that article. Because of the way that the Wiki is structured, changes can only be made by accounts that have been created and are associated with a specific user name. Every change is tracked and catalogued so if any article is vandalized, the responsible person can be banned from the server and the information removed.
We are doing everything we can to ensure that private information isn’t made available without your consent and have mechanisms in place to monitor information provided on the wiki.
The success of the wiki entirely depends on your participation and we want to make that as easy as possible. If you have any questions, want more information, or would like to volunteer for an open position please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Viscount Master Syr Bear, my friend and first citizen of Æthelmearc, died at his home Saturday, sitting at his computer. His family and I will be arranging his service (see below).
He also asked that a party be held in his memory at Pennsic; of course, this will be done. He leaves a Bear-sized hole that will never be filled.
Bear’s funeral services will be Friday, January 27, 2023 at Dusckas Funeral Home, 2607 Buffalo Road, Erie, PA 16510, between 2 to 3 P.M. (visitation) and 3 to 4 P.M. (memories).
Thank you for your kind thoughts; Bear knew he had friends but he didn’t know how much he was loved.
The Chroniclers of the Known World are producing wonderful publications that add so much to each canton, barony, and Kingdom, as well as our Society as a whole. Every group from the smallest shire to the biggest Kingdom brought forth so much information, entertainment, knowledge, and light in a rather dark world, writers, artists, photographers, cartoonists, and others all working together to brighten our lives and increase our knowledge and awareness. There were so many wonderful articles, poems, short stories, and more. The list goes on and on.
The William Blackfox Awards nominees were such a joy for me to go through. If you have not been reading your group newsletters, now is a good time to start! Also, please make your own contributions to your newsletters and you may someday see your name and work in this list. Recipients of this prestigious award will receive a Master William Blackfox token (newly designed for this year), a certificate, and the right to use “Master William Blackfox Award Winner (or also, Commendation or nominee), [category], AS LV (56)” in their newsletters with the Blackfox logo.
Special thanks to my judges, Asta and Riordan, who assisted me in the choosing of the A.S. 56 William Blackfox Awards winners. Also, big shout-out to Patrice for designing and producing the new Blackfox award medallions. I am indebted to you all. And now, with no further ado, I present the Master William Blackfox Awards for A.S. 56! Well done, everyone!
With thanks,
Cecilia Blythe, OP

Hello Æthelmearc! Your Gazette editors have noticed there are two separate meetings occurring virtually Thursday that you may be interested in… at least, we hope they’re separate (they are)!
Master Illadore, Kingdom Seneschal notes that theÆthelmearc Budget meeting will be held on Zoom on this Thursday at 7:30pm. Links will be posted to the mailing list and our official social media outlets closer to that time.
Meesteres Odriana vander Brugghe has the following to say about the Heraldic commenting meeting:
This Thursday, 5 January 2023 at 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Dame Elsbeth will be holding Heraldic Commenting over Zoom.
We will be jointly commenting on the Aethelmearc Internal Letter of Intent. If there is time, we may comment on other items as well.
There is NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!
We can find ways to include you or you can just join and listen. Also, feel free to join us if you have any question about names or armory that you would like to submit – we can help you with what information the College of Heralds needs in order to pass your name, heraldry, or badge.
Please contact Dame Elsbeth at elsbeth (at) pobox (dot) com for the Zoom information.
Also, if you would like to add this event to your online calendar, please follow this link. It will immediately take you to where you can add the event to your calendar. You can also visit the front page of aethelmearc.org to see all up-coming online activities available, including this monthly session.
Oyez! As the great Ice Dragon settles in and her frigid frost covers the land, want to ensure that all in surrounding communities can celebrate comfortably and in good cheer.

Let’s show the area our generosity and look forward to seeing everyone at Investiture!!!
The next monthly Virtual Marshal Meeting is Tuesday, December 6, this time at 7 p.m.
This is an opportunity for all SCA equestrian marshals or marshals in training to get together and learn about how to keep our equestrian program fun and safe for all participants.
During these monthly meetings we will talk about various topics surrounding our equestrian activities, i.e. insurance, paperwork, delegating workload and responsibilities and general safety in & out of the horse arena. The purpose of these meetings are to ask questions and learn from each other.
We will meet on the first Tuesday of each month, generally at 8 p.m.
